Well it has been a whole month since we have posted anything, for a multitude of reasons. When we left Dubrovnik, Croatia via boat to Bari, Italy we had 90% of our next several months planned out. Since then we have been to Pompeii, Italy which was an amazing city that had been covered in ash by Mount Vesuvius. So next stop of course, Mount Vesuvius. Our trip to the top of Mt. Vesuvius was adventurous and miraculous. We struggled getting there driving up a mountain in Italy on the wrong road. Always a bad idea. After finding the right route and reaching the parking lot a good hour or two later than expected we discovered we didn’t have enough cash to buy tickets to enter the trail to walk to the top of Mt Vesuvius. Highly disappointed we looked for every Euro we could find and were still 10 euros short. We walked back to the ticket office not sure what we would say, when a woman jumps out of her car and asks us if we want a free ticket to get in. Praise God is all I can say!!
We then flew out of Rome to Marekesh, Morocco for 10 days on a Family trip planned by Intrepid travel as most people have seen on Facebook this was a highlight in all of our eyes. We met a wonderful family from India that we are certain will be friends for life;)
Upon returning to Rome we had decided to stay out of Rome to avoid the theft and crime associated with it’s reputation and went to Florence to find trouble anyhow. In all honesty we let down our guard when we needed it most. We had our car broken into and all our Electronics stolen including hard drives with all of Dave’s great work on it. I believe in miracles and continue to pray daily for the return somehow some way of one of the hard drives. This was heartbreaking and hardening for all of us.
As with all things life goes on and I love this quote I read on Facebook that is helping me get over it “never regret anything that has happened in your life, it can not be undone forgotten or changed. Take it as a lesson learned and move on”. It still haunts me every night and I lie awake knowing we could have done so many things different. All prayers for the return of a hard drive are welcomed:)
After Florence we drove north to Cinque Terre which was beautiful. We then drove 900 Km from Italy through France and back to Spain. We spent 4 nights in Barcelona which was very nice and then set off for Costa Rica.
So here we are getting over our jet lag and preparing for Spanish immersion school. Really exited that our next 7 weeks is not as much about seeing sites but much more about learning and visiting two families from Fort Collins, the Peebles for Thanksgiving and the Unters for Christmas.
